Capitalism, Oppression, and Why the System Is Making You Sick (Not Your Body)
What if your anxiety isn’t a personal flaw?
What if your autoimmune disease isn’t bad luck?
What if your depression isn’t a chemical imbalance?
What if the real cause of modern illness is the system you live in?
Across the globe, chronic illness, mental health crises, and burnout are skyrocketing. Yet most solutions focus on fixing the individual — with diets, supplements, productivity hacks, or therapy apps. This is a distraction.
The true pathogen is hierarchy itself — capitalism, racism, patriarchy, and colonialism — that forces bodies and minds into unnatural, toxic states.
Capitalism Runs on Your Stress
Capitalism rewards constant output, hustle, and self-optimization. But the human nervous system wasn’t designed for this. Chronic stress floods the body with inflammatory chemicals, weakens the immune system, and triggers disease. Over time, living in “fight or flight” mode fuels heart disease, obesity, autoimmunity, and mental illness.
The system depends on you being too tired, sick, and anxious to resist it.
Oppression Is Chronic Trauma
Racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of systemic oppression are daily sources of trauma — not one-off events. Living under constant threat or dehumanization dysregulates the nervous system, embedding trauma in the body.
Even so-called privileged groups are harmed by the dissociation and moral injury required to uphold unjust hierarchies. No one escapes unscarred.
Meaning Has Been Stolen
Capitalism replaces deep connection with shallow consumerism. Traditional forms of meaning — community, ritual, spirituality, nature — have been stripped away. The result? An epidemic of despair, masked by addictions, distractions, and depression.
Your soul knows it was meant for more than this.
The Wellness Lie
You are told that if you get sick, it’s your fault. You didn’t try hard enough. You didn’t biohack your way to health. This is another layer of oppression.
No amount of green juice or yoga can heal a body crushed by systemic injustice.
Real Healing Is Collective
If hierarchy is the cause of illness, the cure isn’t just personal — it’s political.
- Fight for restorative justice and wealth redistribution.
- Build community-centered care that integrates indigenous wisdom and mutual aid.
- Reclaim rest, joy, and connection as sacred rights.
- Refuse narratives of blame — and name the true cause.
You Were Never Broken
You are not broken.
Your body is not the enemy.
The system is.
And when we dismantle the system, we can finally begin to heal.
