A possible path forward

Experts suggest that lawyers must now reframe their identity:

  • Shift from seeking narcissistic supply to offering genuine collaborative value
  • Embrace AI as an augmentation tool, not an enemy
  • Develop an identity rooted in ethics, creativity, and human judgment — elements still beyond AI’s reach
  • Accept that hierarchical superiority as a sole source of self-worth is a dead end

Whether lawyers can emotionally tolerate that shift remains to be seen.
